no train hay

Was late for work today because the train didn’t go past the Cubao station. So I took a jeepney from Cubao to Legarda. How far is that? Far enough (add the traffic) to make me late :( My forty minute commute became an hour thirty.

Commute was bad enough even before that because I left my wallet at home and I found out about it when I was already near the train station. I had to ask the tricycle driver to go back and pay him extra. Hay. There goes my budget.

I’m done with my passport application. All I have to do now is wait for it. Too bad I won’t be able to get it before the deadline for the Japanese training program. :( I hope there’ll be another opening soon.

Roundup

It was a busy week for me. Thursday I went to apply for a passport so I took time off from work. Grabe, it’s a pretty tiring experience, and all I got for it was an appointment date later today. I overheard one lady security tell someone that if they wanted to have their papers processed in one day, they should arrive sometime like 4 AM. How about that? I think that’s pretty unreasonable… and considering that DFA is quite far.

I went online and found out that you can actually request for a pick-up of your requirements, and DFA will contact you for an appointment once all your things are in order. Well, if I had known about that, I’d have picked that option. It’ll cost a few hundred pesos more, but saving yourself the trouble of going to DFA and lining up for just an appointment is worth the hassle, I’d say. Or you can contact a travel agent to help you arrange for a passport.

My tip? Well, if you can go that early to DFA, why not? Also, bring everything you need to save yourself the expense of getting them in the shops around. People are making a killing in selling ballpens, glue, staplers and those little plastic pouches you’ll need (though for the latter two, I just borrowed from a lady in the DFA photo booth). Also bring a photocopy of your documents.

Saturday, I watched “The Dark Knight” with Drew. It was his second viewing of it; thankfully he didn’t give any spoilers. He also gave me a copy of “The Gotham Knight,” a series of animated stories about Batman done by various animation studios. Kind of like Animatrix.

So how was TDK? I was impressed, and enjoyed it, but I was given the impression that it’s more of a Joker/Harvey Dent film than a Batman one. Maybe because Heath Ledger is gone that’s why many have that impression, but I think it’s because his portrayal was very solid. I don’t remember Jack Nicholson as Joker because I was too young, and most of my impressions about that demented clown was based on the animated series. Still, with Ledger’s take, my original thought that Joker was crazy but cunning was reinforced.

Sunday, I went to watch it again with my brothers. :p It got dragging toward the middle.

Well, good luck to me with DFA later on.

Wall frog

It’s my turn for the “late shift” this week. It rained a bit during the afternoon so when I got out of the office, the weather was cool.

The walk out of the office to the LRT is pretty long, but is good exercise. I don’t really see anyhing unusual or different during my walk, but when I do, it’s often an animal or something in nature.

Months ago, I saw a frog sticking to the wall. It was pretty small, and had a smooth skin instead of the usual bumpy ones in bigger frogs. Today, I saw that frog again so I had to take a picture. I don’t have any fondness for frogs (the only frog I ever like is Kerokerokeroppi), and I definitely would run the other direction if I come across one.

Camera phone, so medyo panget.

I don’t really like frogs, but this was interesting.

Then as I was walking away, something moved near my feet and I saw a huge, brown, bumpy frog. Eeek!

Eiga Sai 2008

The 2008 Eiga Sai kicked off last July 8 at the Shangril-La mall in Ortigas. Aside from the usual movies, this year there’s some anime movies too. You can check the schedules here, or contact Japan Foundation Manila for more details.

I’ve seen “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, and I want to watch “Linda, Linda, Linda”. Rain mentioned the latter before, and one of the girls there is part of the band Baseball Bear.

All screenings are free and subtitled in English. I suggest you go to the venue early as the queues for tickets tend to be long, and seating is on a first come, first served basis. The last time I tried (which was about three years ago, I think), Bakemono, Jay, Toni and I queued for more than an hour for the tickets then again for seats. We amused ourselves with Kokology and taking weird photos haha.

Square curly tops?

I was jonesing for some chocolate on my way home last night. I passed by the store and got a box of Curly Tops. It’s cheap and goes a long way to feeding my chocolate needs (that, or Cloud 9 hehe).

I was surprised when I opened the box and saw that instead of twelve round chocolate pieces, almost all of them were square!

So funny! The box was still sealed when I got it, so my brothers figured that it’s possible during its delivery, the chocolates were jostled and given the climate, may have softened and re-shaped them. Didn’t taste any different though. :D

Phone thoughts

I suppose I’m lucky in raffles in a way since I’ve won several times before, and this is one of those times. I now have a 3G Nokia phone. So it’s goodbye to my much loved Sony Ericsson P800 and hello to a totally different Symbian OS on the Nokia.

It’s been a long time since I’ve searched for anything related to the Symbian OS. When I first got my P800 four years ago (whew, it’s been that long?), I searched non-stop for applications and games to add to my then quite new phone. Aside from the cool programs already included in the package, I got some other interesting and useful ones.

After the first time that phone decided to reformat itself, I wasn’t able to reinstall the applications I found useful. Not to mention the fact that some of the sites I had gotten the programs from were no longer around, plus the fact that more and more people were into making apps for the newer phones. When my phone reformatted itself the second time, I figured I was fine with the regular apps.

Being a long time Sony Ericsson user, with a Symbian OS to boot, there were several tools that I found very useful in the P800. Granted that it’s pretty much an aged phone, but it still worked its function pretty well.
